At New Horizon Centre we seek to provide a supportive environment that encourages every young person in our care to:

Many of the young people who come into our care have suffered severe trauma or abuse and may never have experienced a nurturing environment. Some may feel frightened or worthless as a result of a damaging relationship with an adult. Even at such a young age, they often feel that there is no worthwhile future for them to work towards and look forward to.

The young people who come to us most often manifest the trauma and distress that they have been subjected to by their behaviours and attitudes. The natural tendency for others then to judge them harshly reinforces their negative feelings about themselves, confirming a sense of worthlessness and leading to a downward spiral of despair and often inappropriate and dangerous behaviours.

At New Horizon Centre we create an environment where all our young people can, as of right:

•  Depend on the safety and security of their own home
•  Be treated with respect and consideration
•  Grow their self esteem
•  Be heard and understood
•  Receive the help and support they need to deal with their issues and to help repair some of the damaging effects of the earlier trauma experienced
•  Gain a good education
•  Work towards making good choices and secure a better future for themselves

We nurture our young people, and care passionately about enabling them to hold those expectations in life that most of us take for granted. Our mission is to provide them with the fundamentals of safety, security and care to which all children have a right, but which in most cases our young people have so far been denied.
